Vagamon is a famed hill station in Idukki. Its scenic valleys, beautiful green meadows, enchanting pine forests, mists, fogs, tea estates, waterfalls with the overall greenery is really striking. The landscape is mostly hilly bald with green meadows. Vagamon is also home to a large variety of flora and fauna. There are facilities for trekking, paragliding, mountaineering and rock climbing.
Idukki Dam is the second largest arch dam in Asia, built across the Periyar River. The Dam is open for visiting during several seasons during the year. The lofty hills and the cool air provides a relaxation to your body and mind. Rare types of flora and fauna are found here. The Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is close by and tourists might be able to see the wild animals.
Set at an altitude of 6000 ft in Idukki district, Munnar is the favored summer resort. Palkulamedu, is one of the most Ideal trekking locations in Idukki. A small fresh water pool at the top of the hill adds up another jewel to the enchanting beauty. It is located at the distance of 12 km from Idukki. It is addressed at an elevation of 3125 meters above from the sea level. The place is of great interest for the tourists of any age. The Ayyapancoil Hanging Bridge is one of Kerala's longest hanging bridges and attracts a large number of tourists on a regular basis. The area surrounding the bridge is so appealing and lovely that it is ideal for a weekend retreat or an unforeseen trip. The hanging bridge is both visually interesting and thrilling to walk across. The area surrounding the bridge, an engineering marvel that also happens to be the least explored place, is rarely frequented by many tourists, allowing it to keep its natural beauty to this day.
Idukki district is among the most naturally endowed districts in Kerala and the Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary is a prime example. Located about 450-750 m above sea level, the sanctuary is cradled by the Cheruthoni and Periyar Rivers. The beautiful lake surrounding the sanctuary is perfect for romantic boat rides. The tropical evergreen and deciduous trees add to the charm of the place.
Idukki Arch Dam, an engineering marvel, is located in the South-Indian state of Kerala. It is an arch dam with a double curvature and is built on River Periyar. Precisely, the dam is constructed in a gorge between two hills, Kuravathi and Kuravan. It is at the height of about 550 feet and is a breathtaking sight in the otherwise rugged terrain along which has been built.
Kulamavu is best known for being one of the three dams of the Idukki Reservoir Project. This dam is located side of the Idukki Arch Dam (Asia’s highest arch dam). The dam extends between rocky hills to form the 33 s reservoirs. This dam is one of the major power projects that operate on the Periyar River, the largest in Kera government of Canada, the dam is supported by the waters of Cheruthoni and Idukki dams. The water from the dam is directed through a power tunnel which runs on two underground pressure shaft is directed to the underground power station located in the Muvattupuzha Valley. Having the capacity of gen Mega Watt of power per day, the power house generates this comprising six units of 130 Mega Watt each. Th which the project operates is set at about 2,500 feet above sea level.
Pottanpadi is a town located in the Idukki district of Kerala, about 37 km from Thodupuzha. Kula-mavu Dam is close to the view point. From here you can see the surrounding area of Kulamavu Dam Thodupuzha. Nadukani view point. If you look down, you can see the Moolamattom Power House and the Kanjar Bridge. It is a beautiful U point that takes you covered by nature. Sun-rise and sunset view from the top of the hill is amazing. If you are planning a trip to Idukki do visit this place.
Uppukunnu view point is near Kulamavu Dam in Idukki is less known location. This view point is situated Udumbannoor to Idukki road. It is one
of the peaceful place where you could go for a long drive with your friends and family. Beautiful and scenic location. Night view was excellent. From the top many places are visible. Malankara dam also can be seen from the top.
